New Local Involvement Networks and Plymouth Advisory Partnership for Older People

Colebrook Housing Society in partnership with Plymouth Age concern are delighted to have been appointed as the Host organisation for the new Local Involvement Network and Plymouth Advisory Partnership for Older People.
The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill identified plans to modernise and replace the 400 patient forums and the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health with a new model called LINks. There is one LINk per local authority.

The LINk will be independent of the local authority. The LINk is designed for local people to have a real say in influencing health and social care provision, to facilitate involvement in design and delivery of services and it will build on existing work already achieved by Patient Forums and the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health.
The LINk will enable local people in the city of Plymouth to:

Represent the views and needs of Plymouth residents
To ensure representation from all the communities of Plymouth and to put people who have direct experiences of using services at the heart of influencing, shaping and improving services
The LINk will also ensure accountability of both health and social care services as it will have powers to refer issues to overview and scrutiny committees, request investigation and action to improve services
The LINk will also get involved in the inspection of local services.

There are many ways that people can become involved in the LINk enabling the communities of Plymouth to have their voice heard and for citizens to be actively and directly involved in decision making.
Colebrook Housing Society and Plymouth Age Concern intend to ensure as a Host that the LINk uses accessible, simple and convenient methods for people to get involved.
PAPOP – Plymouth Advisory Partnership for Older People – is designed to enable anyone over 50 to have a strong voice in local services. PAPOP will work closely with the LINk, however PAPOP is not just about health and social care but has a wider remit to enable more active engagement of people over 50 in all their local services so that their valuable expertise and experience can be utilised to shape services for the future.
Desanne McAllister – General Manager – Colebrook Housing Society quotes:
“This is a real opportunity to ensure positive changes and improvements for the people of Plymouth and to use creative ways to enable all the communities of Plymouth to help shape and mould our future services so that Plymouth’s services truly reflect Plymouth's needs. Over the next 3 months we will be working with all our partners to promote and encourage involvement in LINks and PAPOP and to support LINks and PAPOP to make a real and meaningful difference to Plymouth residents”

If you are interested in getting involved with LINks/PAPOP then please call Vicky Shipway on 01752 205210 or email links@colebrookhousing.co.uk
